WC 2017 Bratislava Slovakia

Game 2 - 26/6/17 @ 19.00

Team GB 4 - Brazil 2

Team GB faced Brazil in the second group game of the world championship and although Brazil were the underdogs they did not make it an easy game for the British team.

Team GB took a little time to settle into the game however they never looked to be threatened by the Brazillian offence after taking and killing off an early penalty team GB scored their opening goal at 8.41 with Ashley Jackson scoring assisted by Karl Niamatali and this was the only score of first period.

Team GB took another penalty with just under 3 minutes gone of the second period which they again killed off, however at 16.23 the Brazilians put away their first goal to even the score at one a piece, just over two minutes later team GB put another goal onto the scoreboard with a goal from assistant captain Ben Lowe assisted by Leigh Marrow and that is where the scoring ended for the first half.

With under 30 seconds gone of the third period the Brazilians evened up the score yet again to make it two goals a piece, this seemed to partially ignite something in the GB and they started to control the game a little more and they only put pressure on themselves yet again with having to kill off another penalty but with 15 seconds to go in the period team GB took the lead again through Danny Hutchinson assisted by Nathan Finney

Into the fourth and final period team GB's Danny Hutchinson added another goal to make the scoreline 4-2, when the Brazilian took there one and only penalty GB went close to scoring but thier total control of the puck in the Brazil end zone failed to put another goal on the scoreboard, with 2 minutes to go Brazil pulled their netminder for an extra player and team GB remained controlled and disciplined and did not go and chance the puck and put themselves in danger of being scored against. The game ended with a 4 to 2 win for team GB

A much improved game for Team GB over their opening game if this had been a better class opponent the penalties would have no doubt told, saying that as with the opening game some of the penalties assessed were weak calls, moving onwards GB face Austraila in their final group round games and this will be the most important game of the group stage as will decide who will be second in the pool.
