Game 1 - 19/6/2011
Great Britain 6 -Austrailia 1
Great Britain start with a comfortable win against Australia
Great Britain's first goal came whilst they were shorthanded scored by the very dependable Kurt Waller who stepped up and accelerated away from the Australian defended and despite being hooked from behind managed to put the puck in the net. The second goal came from the stick of John Dolan assisted by Phil Hamer
Great Britain's third goal came during there first and only powerplay, GB passed the puck around with precision with captain Richard Walsh stationed in front of the net it was he who worked hard to tip in the puck, assists went to Finney and Hamer
The fourth came during a quality rush on goal, the players all followed John Dolan who passed it across to Nathan Finney who put it away.
The fifth and the sixth goals were both scored by Matt Viney with assists going to Jack Clarkson and Kurt Waller.
Although the score was 6 to 1, GB were not in possession of the puck all the time, it was just that when Australia had the puck GB were able to control what was going to happen, netminder Alex Birch was unlucky to concede a goal during this game and he made a few saves that were of the highest quality.
One of the key elements to this win was the skating of Nathan Finney and Kurt Waller their ability to change direction and change pace was a sight to be see.
Nathan Finney was awarded the teams man of the match due to his tireless work, however it must be said there was not a player on the court that did not give it 100%.
