IIHF IN-LINE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS | Sweden 2010
Great Britain 6 - Argentina 3
Saturday 3rd July 2010
Great Britain's chances of a medal went yesterday, today the focus was staying in the world championships. It was a simple formula win stay in lose go away and get back in via a very difficult european qualifier.
GB got of to a good start with a goal from Danny Hutchison assisted by Nathan Finney at 5.58 this lead was exteded to 2 with a goal from Nathan Finney by Danny Hutchison 4 minutes later, GB never really settled down to the task and looked flat, there was no score in the second period.
In the third period Argentina came out fighting and scored on the powerplay making it 2:1. Alex Pearman stepped up and regained GB's lead with 2 minutes left of the third period, assisted by Clarkson and Walsh.
GB did not look comfortable and coach Nick Crawley asked for a big last period the man to step up again was Alex Pearman he scored whilst the team played short handed at 39:26 and again on the powerplay at 43:08 assisted by Richard Walsh. Kurt Waller got on to the gamesheet in between Pearmans goals assisted by Moses and Pearman. Argentina managed to get 2 further goals during the last period but the victory for GB means the south american team drop out of the world championships.
GB end the championships in a dispointing 13th spot, however they showed many teams how good they were in this championship from their play in the game against Germany. Many A pool team managers commented on how well the GB team played during that all important cross over game. Great Britains goal this year was not to win medal it was to get into that top elite 8 teams.
Next year the format has changed - All teams will get a rest day a promotion to the A pool will be the team that wins the div 1 gold. A much fairer system which team GB will relish.
